FAQs
ARE INTERIOR DECORATORS THE SAME AS INTERIOR DESIGNERS?
Interior Decorators, like designers, create floor plans, pick furnishings and fixtures, schedule and manage their own businesses and projects. They have their work displayed in publications like magazines or TV. However, to keep it brief, decorators cannot design spaces architecturally – they work within the physical existing space and its elements. They decorate and furnish the space to create a specific aesthetic or style requested by their clients. -Decorators and Designers Association of Canada
DO YOU WORK WITH A SPECIFIC CONTRACTOR OR TRADESPEOPLE?
I do not work with an exclusive contractor. If you already have one you want to work with, great! If not, I have a selection of some very talented tradesmen and women that I’ll be happy to recommend! Putting together a solid team upfront is key in the success of a project.
HOW MANY DESIGN OPTIONS WILL BE PRESENTED?
There will be one comprehensive concept per project to maintain a cohesive vision. This can be revised during the Concept Development and Design Finalization stages.
WHAT IF I’M NOT HAPPY WITH THE DESIGN?
As much as I work closely with the clients, I am human too and capable of taking a swing and a miss! As soon as you spot something not to your liking - please let me know immediately. I always allow for revision time and will never move a design forward without your say-so. This ensures that you are happy with the end result.
IS IT GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE?
Decorating a space can be expensive, depending on how big your space is, the amount of cosmetic work to be done, and the kinds of furnishings you’d like to get. I work within your budget and will give you purchase options so you can choose which one is best for you and your budget.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO SHOP WITH YOU IN-STORE?
Absolutely! I charge by the hour for in-store shopping + transportation fee. I would love to see what kind of style you gravitate towards. I especially encourage in-store shopping with me for artworks, antiques, for testing out comfort levels of sofas and mattresses, and the occassional HomeSense run.
HOW DOES YOUR PRICING WORK?
Pricing depends on the kind of service - some of my services are billed hourly, some are charged a flat fee, and others a percentage of the project.
DO YOU PASS YOUR TRADE PRICING TO YOUR CLIENTS?
No, I don’t extend Trade-only Pricing to my clients, so I can keep my design fees low. Interior Decorating, much like any other business, needs to generate profit. If your Interior Designer or Decorator is able to pass on their Trade-only Pricing to you, that means they’re charging you more through their hourly rate, design fees, or an additional fee for procurement.
